Drunk truck thief crashes

A MAN is accused of stealing a three-tonne truck from a Sydney building site and taking it for a drunken joy ride through the CBD before crashing into a city cafe.

Construction workers prevented any further carnage by chasing the 33-year-old along George St just after 2am on Wednesday, hauling him out of the cabin and holding him until police arrived.

Police say the culprit jumped in the truck and drove through the worksite but travelled only a short distance before crashing through the front window of a nearby cafe.
