Son of gun impresses

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

JACK Doohan has shown his credentials as a motorsport star of the future, impressing on debut in the F3 Asian Championship.

The 16-year-old son of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan took two second placings before clinching victory in the third and final race at Sepang, Malaysia, on the weekend.

“I got a bit of wheel spin off the line but held the lead, pushed the gap out on the first two laps and then managed the tyres until the end and tried not to make any mistakes,” Jack calmly assessed.

As a result of his debut success, he sits second in the overall standings, only behind his Japanese Hitech GP teammate Ukyo Sasahara.

The second round of the F3 Asian Championship will be contested at Thailand’s Buriram International Circuit on May 11-12.
