Clarke has drawn Lion in the sand

- TOM BOSWELL

ARIANNA Clarke won’t be joining her former Suns academy teammates at the Gold Coast in 2020, declaring she wants to be a Lion for life.

Brisbane have told the defender they want to retain her for what would be a third season on their AFLW list.

Clarke, who plays for Bond University in the QAFLW, said she wouldn’t hesitate to re-sign despite her previous experience with the Suns, who enter the AFLW next year.

“I haven’t spoken to the Suns … ideally I’d like to play with the Lions for my entire career because I see myself as a one-club player,” she said.

“I know the drive to Brisbane is inconvenient but it is well worth it to play with the group of girls at the Lions.”

Clarke, 19, predicted any potential “QWClash’’ derby between the clubs would be heated.

“It would be intense, I know that,” Clarke said.

“It would be heated too. We want to be the best team in Queensland so we will play like that.

“Our mentality going in playing, it if we were to play next season, would be about wanting to show them we are the more experienced side who have a few more years of AFLW behind us.”
