BURGESS DEBUTS ON BIG SCREEN
NRL player George Burgess was all smiles as he made his big-screen debut at the Gold Coast Film Festival last night.
The Rabbitohs front rower scored a part in Australian thriller Locusts, written and produced by Gold Coast radiologist Angus Watts and Heath Davis.
The film tells the story of a troubled tech entrepreneur who finds himself caught up in a small-town scam.
Burgess got his start in theatre after a push from famed actor and Rabbitohs part-owner Russell Crowe.
“It’s exactly my kind of movie, a nitty-gritty thriller, and my character Ivan works in the local strip club as a bouncer,” Burgess said at the Home of the Arts screening last night.
“Theatre and screen are totally different things and I hadn’t realised until I experienced them both. I think I prefer the screen side and hopefully I can do some more work.”
He was joined at the premiere by wife Joanna.
“He’ll come home and practise his scripts so it’s nice seeing him on the big screen or the stage to watch it all come to life,” she said.
