Surfers Paradise apartment of ice skating icons hits market

- MIKAELA DAY

THE stylish Surfers Paradise skyhome of two former Gold Coast ice skating icons is set to dazzle on the property market.

The three-bedroom apartment on the 45th floor of the Mantra Circle on Cavill building was home to Donald McKnight and Colin Jackson, who played a pivotal role in ice skating across Queensland.

The pair have a long list of achievements on the ice, including a national championship, Olympic judging, coaching and the formation of the Queensland’s two Iceworld Olympic Ice Rinks.

McKnight, who died last year, was the president of Ice Skating Australia for more than two decades and was a figure skating judge at the 1994 Winter Olympics.

His partner of 53 years, Jackson, died in 2017. He was also a skater and coached two-time Olympian Anthony Liu.

Close friend and one of the executers of the estate Gillian Levett said the couple lived and breathed ice skating.

“They dedicated their lives to it,” Ms Levett said.

Their three-bedroom Coast apartment at 1452/9 Ferny Ave features spacious, light-filled living areas, impressive views and multiple balconies.
