LEADING THE FIELD IS A WALK IN THE PARK

- ELIZA REILLY

HYE Park is hitting her opposition out of the park.

The RACV Royal Pines golf talent sits firmly on top of the leaderboard of the Australian Girls Amateur Championship two rounds into the three-day competition at Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club.

The 15-year-old sits at an 8-under score of 138, three shots ahead of closest competitor Fiona Xu.

Park recorded an even-par 73 yesterday but it was Round 1 where she wreaked havoc.

She finished with an eightunder-par round of 65, a course record, with the help of five consecutive birdies from the 3rd to the 7th hole.

“I was so happy,” said Park who relocated to Australia from Korea three years ago.

“My putting was so great so I wasn’t that nervous.”

If Park wins, Australia’s 10th ranked amateur female player will earn herself a start at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship in America and the Australian Women’s Open.

“It sounds really great,” she said.

The 84 strong field was cut to 60 ahead of the final 36hole round today.
