COAST FAIRYTALE

-

WE don’t think it is cheeky at all to claim Winx as a Gold Coast fairytale.

For it all started right here at the Magic Millions sales yard she was, in hindsight, snapped up for a paltry $230,000.

Six years later she arrived at the start line of her final race on Saturday and did not disappoint.

She did it. The fairly tale ending every single punter who follows horse racing was hoping for.

The great one, Winx, has gone out a champion, taking home the chocolates at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Her sale here on the Gold Coast originally is only going to add to the increasing lustre and profile being generated by the Magic Millions yearling sale.

She has become the horse that captured Australia’s heart.

With her final 33 wins all in a row, raking in excess of $26.4 million in prizemoney, she truly is the greatest race horse to grace this country’s tracks.

Her progeny in the coming years will see her legacy live on, and the Gold Coasters could have the chance to be involved in what could be another champion if they follow the likes of the dam and get sold on the Glitter Strip.

Here is a nod to Winx and what she has done for a signature Gold Coast event and attraction, a legend that will continue to reap benefits.

Now, how is that horse GoGoldCoast – co-owned by Mayor Tom Tate, hospitality king Billy Cross, restaurateur Simon Gloftis, the Henderson brothers and others – going?
