Bali can’t help Currie

-

THE ongoing saga of charges against Ben Currie has taken another twist with stewards bringing on an inquiry while the Toowoomba trainer is overseas.

Currie is in Bali, where he is best man at a wedding, and is not expected back in Australia until late this week.

Last week Queensland stewards informed Currie’s legal team they had listed an inquiry for today into two charges involving phone texts that are alleged to involve the use of a jigger. Those charges are separate from seven charges that also include some allegations of jigger use, to be heard tomorrow week.

Currie is believed to have already left the country when the date was set. To further complicate matters, Currie’s solicitor has an interstate commitment today but the inquiry is set to go ahead with his barrister Jim Murdoch making submissions on legal points.

Currie is due in court on Thursday, when his lawyers will ask for an extension of a stay order against a ruling to stand him down pending an inquiry into other charges.

He is to be cross examined on his statement regarding the charges but that inquiry is now set to be done by a phone link to Bali.
