Haybittle’s hopes at Coffs

-

GOLD Coast junior Rico Haybittle will today step up his bid for the Oz Grom Cup.

Queensland’s under-12 champion will line up against Samuel Lowe – son of former World Championship Tour surfer Mick Lowe – Joel Emery (Angourie) and Cruz Sheridan (Margaret River) in the quarter-finals in Coffs Harbour.

The second day of action yesterday saw erratic weather and waves.

Port Kembla’s Lowe showed the style and grace reminiscent of his father as he attacked tiny waves in his second 12-and-under boys’ heat.

Gabi Spake (Northern Beaches) continued to build on the momentum that saw her win the Ocean and Earth Northern Beaches Regional Titles last week, shining in her opening 16-and-under heat.

Carly Shanahan (Wooli), Amelie Bourke (Newcastle), Charli Hurst (Port Kembla), Giorgia Lorentson (Noosa Heads) and Lily Macdonald (Freshwater) all won their respective opening heats.

The Oz Grom Cup will recommence today, with the 14and-under boys’ Round 3 hitting the water first.

The third day of competition will also see the priority system implemented across the remaining heats.

Action at the event is across under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and mixed divisions.
