Boyle in beast mode as Bears go on rampage

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

BURLEIGH recruit Millie Boyle has shown she will be a wrecking ball for opposition South East Queensland women’s division one teams to fear after helping the defending premiers obliterate a powerless Toowoomba outfit.

The Bears piled on try after try on Saturday night in a 66-0 scoreline that would have been steeper had it not been for a number of missed conversions.

While the backs generally reaped the rewards out wide, coach Tahnee Norris was excited but what she saw in the middle third at Pizzey Park.

“Millie, she was a beast,” Norris smiled of the 20-yearold’s club debut. “That was great. That was her first game of league for a really long time, she has just come out of that Super W (rugby union) competition. She was outstanding and she is going to be like that for the rest of the year for us, which is fantastic.”

Boyle in fact was not originally slated to face Toowoomba after being away all week visiting family.

“I actually didn’t intend on playing and turned up and then went home and got my boots,” she said.

The next challenge for unbeaten Burleigh is an April 28 meeting with Tweed and the Bears hope to have Jasmin Kemp and Zahara Temara back on deck by then.

The Seagulls yesterday were beaten 48-8 by Wests at Frank Lind Oval.
