On for young, older boys

-

BRONCOS old boys have been criticised by dual premiership winner Chris Johns for a “pathetic” turnout of four ex-players to a meetand-greet with the current Brisbane team endorsed by coach Anthony Seibold.

The Broncos Old Boys organisation, which tries to keep in touch with players from the 31 seasons of the club, sent out invitations to a function at which they could speak to the current team on April 7.

It was three days after the 36-4 hammering by the Roosters which ignited fresh criticism of the Broncos’ direction during a 1-4 start.

Tonie Carroll, Michael Hancock, Michael De Vere and Darren Smith were the only ex-players to take up the chance to attend the function, Old Boys chairman Johns said.

“Anthony Seibold really got behind it and said he’d love them (current Broncos) to meet some of the old players,’’ said Johns, who was overseas at the time of the get-together.

“It was really a pathetic effort from the Old Boys.”
