Gordon scores victory

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

A TRY, five goals, huge fan support and a much needed Titans victory combined to create the perfect formula for Michael Gordon to celebrate his 250th NRL game.

Buoyed by an army of about 400 personal supporters in attendance for his milestone, Gordon was generally good in his side’s crucial 30-24 win over Penrith at Cbus Super Stadium on Friday night and he cut a satisfied figure postmatch.

“We needed the win as a team and as a club and just lucky for me it happened to be on this game,” he said, sporting a busted lip. “It was desperate times and I thought the boys played really well.”

The 35-year-old fullback was pleased with the ticker on display in a performance that “wasn’t the prettiest”. He said there was one factor above all that made a difference: “We showed some good patience at times, getting repeat sets and building pressure.

“That’s something we haven’t been doing for a while so I thought that was the most pleasing part and then some really good ‘D’ (defence) to back it up.”

The result marked the first

time he has been victorious in a milestone match.

Gordon will mark up on the game’s most exciting talent on Sunday when Kalyn Ponga and the Newcastle Knights come to town.

After a weekend of enjoying the taste of victory, Gordon said it was time to get back to business today.
