NO.1 FAN BASKING IN SUNS RISE

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

LONG-SUFFERING Gold Coast Suns fan Bruce Coulson finally has something to cheer about.

Coulson, 53, has been a fan since day one back in 2011 and stood beside his team through the good, the bad and the ugly.

But after a disappointing 2018, things are looking up for the team who claimed their third win in a row on Sunday.

Mr Coulson said the string of victories including Sunday night’s last-gasp 59-57 win over Carlton was bringing fans out of despair with Sunday’s game attracting 14,000-plus.

“The memberships are increasing and crowds are increasing,” he said.

“Some of those people that knocked the team have become members.

“Making that kick with 13 seconds to go just showed the team’s fitness levels is up among the best in the league.

“The energy coming out of the playing group is amazing.”

We all tend to forget Gold Coast is only nine years old. There’s clubs in Melbourne that have taken 37 years to win a flag and the Suns are already showing they’re competitive. There’s great signs ahead.”
