COAST KIDS ENDURE A MIXED DAY

EMERSON Jones is into the semi-finals of the Brisbane Age titles after a doublebarr­eled blitz yesterday.

The Gold Coast junior crushed Juliet Santitto 6-0, 6-2 in their third round under-12 girls’ match before beating Liza Mirskaya 6-2, 6-0 in the quarter-finals at Griffith University at Mt Gravatt.

In the under-14s, fellow Gold Coaster Thomas Gadecki won his second round match against Jack Newman 6-0, 6-4 but went down 7-5, 6-4 to fifth seed Charlie Pade in the quarter-finals.

Daniel Fry, whose sister Sophia plays in the open circuit, won his qualificat­ion consolatio­n round against Yuma Ichinlose (Japan) 6-2, 6-3 but lost his next match against Conor Whitby 6-3, 1-6.

In the under-14 girls, Julia Pisa went down 6-4, 1-6, 1-6 to Lily Taylor (Kuraby), who trains with the national academy. However Pisa bounced back to defeat fourth seed Steffani Madjeer 6-1, 6-1 in their consolatio­n match and now meets Claire Chan in the next round today.
