FESTIVAL RAISING THE BAR

- AMBER MACPHERSON

IT seems a shame our beautiful beaches can never be enjoyed with a cold one in hand but for the next 11 days Burleigh Heads is home to the Gold Coast’s only beach bar.

As part of Bleach* Festival’s southern art hub Bleach* at Burleigh, the community will be able to purchase refreshments from a bar and sip on the sand from 2pm to 10pm daily at the Burleigh Bleach* Club in front of Justin’s Park.

Bleach* CEO Louise Bezzina said the beach bar was a first for the culture and arts celebration.

“We’ve never done it before,” Ms Bezzina said.

“We have a beautiful setting, we have fantastic performances happening, we thought it was a great way to complement the program by setting up a bar on the beach.”

With the music stage and family friendly art installations nearby, Ms Bezzina said the enclosed area would be a place for adults to indulge responsibly. “Last year with our free music events we had people turning up with alcohol – this is a much safer way to control alcohol consumption,” she said.

Burleigh Bleach* Club will operate until April 28.
