Deal in vile case beckons
A NORTHERN NSW man charged with having sex with dogs is negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors over more than 200 charges against him.
Dean Anthony Sellenthin, 43, of Bangalow has been accused of a vast array of sexual offending in the Northern Rivers, including bestiality.
He’s been charged with stalking, indecently assaulting a person with a disability and stealing more than 100 pairs of women’s and children’s underwear and swimwear, court documents show.
Court documents allege Sellenthin committed acts of bestiality against a number of dogs, including a golden retriever and a dog named “Bear”. It does not explain how police allegedly know Sellenthin engaged in acts of bestiality or specifically how many dogs were involved.
He is also charged with entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence, allegedly to electronically record people in private. Charges of producing child abuse material related to locations in northern NSW.
The unemployed single man, who police allege has used fake names in the past, remains behind bars after previously being denied bail.
It’s alleged Sellenthin’s offending occurred between 2011 and 2017, in areas including the tourist hub of Byron Bay.
In Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday, prosecutor Dannielle Collin said a “defence offer” had been made. and the case “may proceed to sentence”.
She said Sellenthin’s defence lawyer would be working with police and prosecutors to “finalise a plea proposal”.
Magistrate Geoff Dunlevy adjourned the case to June 19 for a committal for sentence.
