Ryan tired of lack of continuity as excuse

-

CONTINUITY has been lacking on the Gold Coast but captain Ryan James is sick of hearing about it as he sets his sights on back-to-back NRL wins.

The Titans’ halves pairing has chopped and changed all year with injuries to Ashley Taylor and Tyrone Roberts big factors in their slow start to the season.

The pair finally completed consecutive games together last Friday against Penrith, when the Titans snapped a four-game losing streak to get on the board.

That combination could be split again though if Taylor is unable to shake a strained knee which led to an early shower in the last round.

His replacement AJ Brimson excelled after being thrown into the role but he will definitely be missing against Newcastle on Sunday after breaking his thumb.

Ryley Jacks is on standby should Taylor, who missed the first three rounds with a quad injury, withdraw for the game.

Queensland Origin forward Jarrod Wallace will serve a two-match suspension for a shoulder charge, with fit-again Shannon Boyd (hamstring) back in the side in a handy swap.

James could only roll his eyes when the side’s run of injuries were mentioned but the captain knows it is no excuse come Sunday at Robina.

“We’ve got the depth in the halves. There’s no excuses for not winning,” he said. “It still wasn’t the brand of footy we want to play (against Penrith) but I thought everyone from one to 17 played pretty good.”
