PLENTY OF YOUNG ALLEYGATORS IN TALENT POOL

-

REDS hooker Sean Farrell is adamant there is nothing wrong with rugby union talent pools on the Gold Coast – and he has first-hand experience to back it up.

The 20-year-old this week joined fellow Queensland Reds players Efi Maafu and Caleb Timu in Super-sizing the skills of Palm Beach Currumbin juniors.

The Rookie2Reds Holiday Clinic at the Alleygators’ Bienvenue Drive home ground included more than 20 kids aged from 5-12 taking part.

The juniors joined the Reds trio in skills sessions focusing on catching, passing, movement and evasion, as well as receiving words of encouragement from the elite players.

Despite Palm Beach Currumbin recently withdrawing from the Gold Coast District Rugby Union senior first grade competition due to financial issues, Farrell said there were no concerns over the future of the code in the area.

“There is a lot of talent on the Gold Coast so we always jump at the opportunity to get here and check it out,” he said.

“The Rookies2Reds holiday clinics are a great way to nurture young players and inspire them to be the best they can be.”

The holiday clinic prompted the Reds players to reminisce on their own rugby journeys and praise the importance of grassroots footy.
