A SHOW HORROR FANS WILL BE ABLE TO STEER THEMSELVES TO

- AMBER MACPHERSON

YOU’VE heard of drive-in cinema, well say hello to Throttle, a drive-in theatre experience where a horror story plays out in front of your windscreen.

As part of the Gold Coast culture and arts festival Bleach*, Throttle is described as a “B-grade thriller” exploring the relationship between man and machine as patrons watch from the edge of their car seat at the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds.

Director Gavin Webber, of Gold Coast dance company The Farm, said the production was not for the fainthearted.

“We want to burst the bubble of safety in the vehicle,” Mr Webber said.

“We do get up close and personal at times to try and break that barrier between you and the performer – you and your car are part of the performance.”

The production was curated especially for Bleach* Festival following the success of last year’s performances The Ninth Wave and Tide.

“We’ve done a lot in the water and on the beach, it’s good to have a change of environment and go out to the hinterland,” Mr Webber said.

Throttle runs from Wednesday to Sunday, April 28 at 7.30pm each night. Visit bleachfestival.com.au
