EPILEPTICS URGED TO REFRESH PLAN
EPILEPSY Queensland’s chief executive has urged those living with the neurological condition to visit their doctor for a fresh management plan after the tragic death of a Robina basketball coach.
Helen Whitehead “conveyed her sympathy to the family” of Chris Dicker, 28, who drowned after a suspected seizure.
Mr Dicker suffered epilepsy since he was a child and died while kayaking during a family holiday.
Ms Whitehead said epilepsy has wildly varying impacts on individuals.
Warning signs of seizures can include auras, out of body sensations, feeling fuzzy or confused, jerking and unexplained confusion.
But people with epilepsy will generally not know they have the condition until seizures strike and they’re subsequently diagnosed.
More than 250,000 Aussies live with epilepsy and up to 3.5 per cent of Australians will experience epilepsy at some point in their lives.
