Beer and skittles for fit Coast couple

-

GOLD Coast couple Chloe Rose Tucker and Lindsey Walker have claimed bragging rights in an annual Easter wifecarrying race, winning her weight in beer.

In a nailbiting final at Roma’s annual Easter in the Country day, they narrowly beat defending champions Billy and Nicole Ryan.

The Gold Coast pairing, displaying outstanding technique, overcame a slow start to dominate the track in a recordbreaking time of 19 seconds.

Twelve couples fought it out for glory, with only one team being able to take home the ultimate prize: the weight of their wife – or in Mr Walker’s case fiancee – in beer.

The bizarre sporting contest, which is popular in northern England and Europe, has wives clinging to their husband’s backs as they step in troughs of water and jump over bales of hay to complete a 70m course.

Ms Tucker and Mr Walker, first-time entrants, said they felt prepared for the race because staying active was an important part of their fitness regimen back home.

“We climb mountains most weekends so we definitely have good fitness levels,” Ms Tucker said.

“It was really fun being carried. I felt like a milkshake because I was being shaken all up.”

They said they were looking forward to enjoying their prize once they returned home to the Gold Coast.
