Friends battle it out for title
SEAN Ingham has taken out the $10,000 Musgrave Hill Easter Open Prestige Singles after defeating Jayden Christie 25-11 in the final.
In a high-quality affair, the score didn’t really indicate the game with Ingham’s first bowl proving to be the difference.
Ingham and Christie are close friends who have been in sublime form with both being a part of the best-performed rink at the recent Australian Sides Championships.
Ingham was named player of the series for the Queensland v Tasmania matches, was an integral part of the Queensland Test series win over NSW and won his club singles and fours at Broadbeach.
Ingham defeated Mark Vogler in one semi-final while Christie defeated Kobe Barton in the other semi.
Georgia White was the best-performed female of the event with the highlight her defeat of her brother along the way. White lost to Barton in the quarter-final after being the only female into the last 8.
CLINTON Bailey and Brendan Wilson cleaned up at the McKenzie Park Easter Pairs at the weekend.
The pair won all six games with a margin of 43 to end Sean Baker and Jade Groenewege’s reign of the event.
McKenzie Park locals Peter Horne and Smokey Dawson ran second after being a late inclusion in the event.
RYAN Bester fell at the last hurdle of the prestigious Adelaide Master Singles.
Bester was defeated by Australian Jackaroo Corey Wedlock (Cabramatta) 25-16 in the final. Bester’s Broadbeach teammate Kevin Anderson also made the journey to Adelaide but was knocked out by Aaron Wilson (Cabramatta) in the last 16.
YOUNG gun Kira Bourke has made a big impression in her first Queensland junior titles, winning the under-18 girls singles easily.
Bourke, who recently moved to Tweed Heads from Victoria, also finished with gold in the open pairs with Jake Rynne of North Toowoomba. She claimed bronze in the open triples with Cody Staggard and Breeanna Pegg.
Bourke is the current Australian under-18 girls singles title-holder, an event she has won the past two years.
