PROPERTY SCENE JUST CHERRY PICKING FOR NRL STAR

- JESSICA BROWN

RUGBY league star Daly Cherry-Evans might be looking to buy another property on the Gold Coast after scoring an extra $200,000 on the sale of his Mermaid Beach pad.

Property records now show the State of Origin and Manly Sea Eagles player’s Petrel Ave house fetched $1.65 million this year.

The sale was penned in February but the ink dried last week following a long settlement period.

It was believed his decision to sell was a move to cut ties with the Gold Coast but the real estate agent who handled the sale suggests otherwise.

LJ Hooker Broadbeach director Matt Conduit has been talking to CherryEvans about investing the money back in the area as Sydney and Melbourne markets continue to decline.

“The Gold Coast has been holding up quite nicely and he’s aware of that,” he said.

“He’s now seriously considering leaving the money in Queensland.

“He’s not looking to move here. It will just be an investment property for him.”

A local family snapped up the four-bedroom house in February.

Mr Conduit told the Bulletin at the time he had “tremendous interest” in the property.

“It was sold within twoand-a-half weeks of hitting the market,” he said.

It was the second time the property had been listed since Cherry-Evans bought it in 2015 for $1.45 million.

It first hit the market in July but the for-sale sign was taken down three months later.

At the time, it was being rented out for $1300 a week.

Mr Conduit said it was taken off the market as Cherry-Evans “preferred not to disrupt the family that tenanted the property”. That lease expired in December.

RYAN James’ season-ending ACL injury could open the door for young gun Moeaki Fotuaika to take the next leap in his NRL development.

The Titans’ worst fears over their skipper were yesterday confirmed ahead of Saturday’s clash against the Tigers as they chase three wins in a row for the first time since 2017.

The 193cm prop forward James was ruled out for six months after scans revealed a ruptured ACL in his right knee.

The injury came in the 12th minute of Easter Sunday’s clash against Newcastle after James collided with Knights hooker Danny Levi and had to be carried from the field.

The club said James would have surgery once he saw his surgeon.

James’ injury comes after dummy-half Nathan Peats was ruled out for up to three months with a torn pectoral muscle while Kevin Proctor (hip) and Keegan Hipgrave (back) were also ruled out through injury last week.

Titans coaching staff are confident Proctor and Hipgrave will be fit to return this weekend while Shannon Boyd was yesterday named to start in the No.8 jersey.

The loss of James opens the door for young gun Fotuaika, who will replace James in the No.10.

Fotuaika said it was an unfortunate incident but he was confident the Titans forward pack could cover the loss.

“It’s a bit unlucky what happened to Ryan,” Fotuaika said.

“But we’ve definitely got a lot of players that can fill in that position.”

He said the Titans were wary of a “fired up” Wests Tigers side who were drubbed 51-6 by Parramatta.

“(The Tigers) didn’t really play too well so they’ll be fired up this week to put in a good performance to get their season back on track,” he said.

“Hopefully we can match them and put in another good performance.

“It was good to get a win on Sunday and hopefully we can keep playing good footy.”
