BUB HELPS JOIN DOTS FOR CLAN

-

THERE may be 97 years between them, but five generations of the same family gathered for the first time to meet the youngest of the clan, baby Theo.

Great-great grandmother Winnie McLean, 97, greatgrandmother Bonnie Howes, grandmother Justine Marshall, mother Joanna Marshall and Theodore, nine weeks, came together at Labrador as the family introduced Theo to his great-great-grandmother, who they affectionately call Nanny Jock.

Theo’s mum Joanna Marshall said it was a “very special” occasion for the family.

“Nanny Jock cried out ‘oh my God, our baby!’ when she saw Theo for the first time,” she said. “She was absolutely thrilled and couldn’t help but repeat how gorgeous he is.

“Theo settled into her arms straight away and Nanny even with humour threatened anyone who came to hold him to ‘go away’.

“It’s always very special (to get together).”

The family all live and grew up on the Gold Coast and regularly catch up weekly for meals, to walk the dogs or to visit Winnie at her Labrador home.

“Winnie is quite the comedian and so we have many laughs together,” she said.

“It was particularly special to capture the moment for Theo to look back on proudly.

“Winnie is very proud – as we all are.

“Five generations is remarkable, and during our visit we counted all of the members of her lineage.”

In total Winnie has five children, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and now one great-great grandchild.

Her husband John McLean died in 2013 at 93 years of age.

“Winnie is very clever and witty and also offers good advice that we take earnestly,” she said.

“She will remind you to not worry about things that won’t matter in the future and will certainly keep us all in line if she thinks we need it.”
