FESTIVAL PLANNING PICKS UP SPEED

- BOB ANTHONY bob.anthony@news.com.au

IT may be more than 12 months away but the Festival of Speed on Tweed organisers are determined to keep the event on the minds of Murwillumbah residents through a new shopfront.

Planning for the festival continues on track for its return in September 2020 after initial plans to see its return this year hit a few hurdles.

However, the extended period of time to plan has seen the Festival of Speed of Tweed formally now affiliated with Australia’s major motor sporting body, CAMS.

The man in charge of the shopfront, Bill Bitossi, said having a presence in town was a bonus in letting people who may not have been familiar with the event know what Speed is all about.

“This is a great information centre and we hope to have footage from previous meetings running on screens here as well as providing an outlet for Speed merchandise as it becomes available,” Mr Bitossi said.

“Being located in Murwillumbah St is handy to a lot of events coming up in the town, especially the Murwillumbah Arts Trail, and we hope to have a popup stand in the main street outside the Court House Hotel to help spread the word.

“Our shop will be staffed by volunteers and all sales of items and tickets will go 100 per cent back toward making Speed a great event not just for Murwillumbah but for the entire Tweed.”
