SO FRUSTRATING

-

THANK you Annaliese Battista. Destination Gold Coast’s CEO has summed up what’s wrong with how the political parties are treating the city in this federal election.

It’s not as though the city is asking for some frivolous, luxurious folly.

What is at stake is a transport system to avoid traffic gridlock. Ms Battista is correct in seeing the important need for the light rail extension through a tourism prism. It is the city’s lifeblood and trams must run to the airport.

From residents’ perspective, there is the daily struggle on the road system.

Taking the light rail to Burleigh and later to Coolangatta must happen, but the Coalition and Labor refuse to provide sufficient funding to make stage 3A happen.

As Ms Battista says, one side of politics sees winning here a lay-down misere, so is not investing what it should, while the other believes it can’t win the Glitter Strip seats so won’t try. In that climate, the city can only lose. It’s time candidates fought for the city for once.
