SAY BYE BYE TO SUNNY, CLEAR SKIES

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

BEACHGOERS are enjoying the last rays of sunshine today as meteorologists warn showers and storms are imminent.

Night-time temperatures are set to drop to as low as 18C and as much as 5mm a day is expected to fall across the Gold Coast.

WeatherZone meteorologist Joel Pippard said the bad weather would likely stretch throughout the rest of the week.

“There’s a big low pressure system forming over the south of the country, which means a trough heading over the Gold Coast,” he said.

“There’s a good chance of rainfall from Tuesday, and each day from Tuesday through to Friday or Saturday, maybe longer.

“For this week it looks like just patchy onshore showers, but that becomes a bit more chance of storms over the weekend.”

The Gold Coast is still well below average monthly rainfall for April, with only 70mm this month so far.

It’s also below the 594mm yearly rainfall average, with the majority of 2019’s 515mm having fallen on a single day last month.
