Burras swoop Cyclones

Gentle’s Bermuda pain Tigerstix in goal storm

-

GOLD Coast triathlete Ashleigh Gentle has vowed to bounce back following a 26th place finish in the Bermuda leg of the World Triathlon Series.

Gentle labelled yesterday’s result one of her toughest days in triathlon after recording her worst World Series finish since the 2012 grand final. “I’ve bounced back before, and I’ll aim to do it again,” she said.

Gentle will now return to her South Carolina training base before flying to Miyakojima City in Japan ahead of WTS Yokohama.

The Japanese location will form Australia’s pre-Olympic training base ahead of next year’s Tokyo Games.

Fellow Gold Coaster Brandon Copeland finished 37th in the men’s race in Bermuda. LABRADOR has moved up to second position on the Brisbane Hockey League ladder after downing bottom-placed Norths on Saturday.

The Tigerstix beat the Eagles 6-0 at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre to extend its winning run to three matches, moving up the ladder thanks to Bulimba’s 3-2 loss to Commercial.

In the Gold Coast division one men’s league, ladder leaders Kingscliff continued their dominant form with a 6-2 win over Labrador, while Capri downed Casuarina and Burleigh beat Mudgeeraba.

In the women’s league, Burleigh dealt the Roosters their first loss of the season with a 4-3 win and Labrador defeated Capri by five goals. DESPITE a valiant effort that saw them win three of four skins, the Gold Coast Cyclones men failed to come away with the win against the Strathpine Burras. After restricting the Burras to 61, their lowest score of the season, recruit Dayne Siede unleashed with three 7’s in the first two overs to start the run chase but five wickets in the next two overs left the last two partnerships with a lot of work to do as the Cyclones fell 10 runs short. The Burras were too strong for the Cyclones women and recorded a 149-89 win.

Amy Ridell starred with the bat but a lack of wickets saw the Burras easily prevail. The Cyclones now have a twoweek break before their next matches on May 11.
