Westdorp on cloud nine
GOLD Coaster Shakira Westdorp claimed her ninthstraight open women’s crown at the Queensland Stand Up Paddle Surfing State Titles at Duranbah Beach yesterday.
A three-time and current SUP world champion, Westdorp put together a combined heat total of 14.83 to defeat Brea Wright, Chloe Walkerdene and Ke’ale Dorries.
“It’s my ninth consecutive state title so it was a great win,” Westdorp said.
“The state titles are super important because it provides a pathway to represent our country at the ISA world championships (later this year). It’s great for grassroots competition as well.”
Mount Coolum’s Wesley Fry (11.7) won the men’s event ahead of Nic Walker, Tim Cyprien and Craig Liddicoat.
