TIPS FOR STUDYING SUCCESS
STUDYING isn’t everyone’s best friend — but there are a few ways to make it easier. Here are Rosie Ball’s seven simple study hacks.
Turn off socials: We are all guilty of being distracted by social media. Apps such as Self-Control for Mac and Cold Turkey for PCs can stop the procrastination by blocking access to all those distracting websites.
Turn on the hits: According to research, listening to classical music while studying can increase positivity and receptivity to new information.
Eat your greens: During study sessions it is important to maintain a healthy diet — remember your two serves of fruit, five serves of vegetables and two litres of water each day.
Pace yourself: The Pomodoro Technique is something to consider when sitting down to study. Using a timer to break down work into intervals, normally 30 minutes in length, separated by five-minute breaks, can increase efficiency.
Write it out: Writing out revision notes, highlighting, using online flashcards and drawing mind maps are proven methods to understand and process more information.
Sleep: Research highlights that all-nighters are not effective. Eight to 10 hours sleep each night can dramatically improve memory and learning.
Meditate: Feeling anxious? Five minutes of meditation each morning can reduce anxiety and help with your concentration.
