Burning love for superfan Christine

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

SOUTHEAST Queensland’s resident Elvis expert has a strict list for director Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic.

Superfan Christine Bamford, 66, has had a lifelong love affair with the star since joining a Melbourne fan club in 1968.

She’s now president of the Logan-based Elvis Presley Fan Club, and said she already knew exactly what she’s looking for in the upcoming film.

“(Baz) has got his finger on the pulse, I really hope they do it in good taste, because I am sick and tired of them doing the drugs and all that side of it,” she said. “They’ve done so many things on him that have been so inaccurate it makes you cringe.

“I’m really not sure if I want the actor to be singing Elvis or if I want Elvis’ voice to be over it. We’ve had a lot of shows that made the actor sing like Elvis, doesn’t work.”

But she’s willing to make an exception for her personal Elvis casting pick.

“But I won’t say who it is, I don’t want to blow his chances,” she said.
