ASIAN EXPEDITION OPENS DOORS FOR ACADEMY

-

GOLD Coast Football Academy officials are hopeful some impressive performances at last month’s Singapore Cup will open the door to further opportunities abroad.

The academy, based at Upper Coomera, sent four teams – under-11, 13, 16 and under-14 girls – to the international seven-aside competition, which also drew sides from a host of global powerhouses including Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea.

While the under-11s exited at the knockout stage, the under-13s and girls’ outfits reached the quarter-finals before the under-16s made the semis.

“They have created a positive stir, causing invitations to other prestigious competitions,” academy coach Sam Smith said.

“I cannot impress on you enough the high standard of the competition. Asia breathes this type of football.”
