And it’s bad to worse for ex-Mayor

-

SACKED Logan Mayor Luke Smith was granted bail yesterday after spending the night in Beenleigh watchhouse charged with drink driving and breaching bail conditions.

The court heard Smith, who was already on bail, was driving to get KFC at Meadowbrook when he crashed his car into a tree.

Magistrate John Byrne said he would not increase the bail reporting conditions on Smith, who will still have to front up at Beenleigh Police Station every Monday and Friday.

Wearing a black T-shirt and black board shorts, Smith walked out of the watchhouse looking dishevelled.

Police allege Smith mounted a gutter and hit a car and a tree on Eden Lea Dve with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.139 about 5pm on Wednesday.

The court heard that when Smith crashed the white Honda CR-V the tyre fell off and he then sat under a tree, where police found him.

As with most bail conditions Smith can be subjected to a blood-alcohol test at any time. The case was adjourned until May 23.
