AFL return still option for Shaw

-

FORMER Suns wingman Matt Shaw says he hasn’t completely shut the door on a return to the AFL after attracting interest from the league following his scintillating start to the NEAFL season with Southport.

Shaw spoke of the relief he felt when he left Carlton at the end of 2018 after battling to try and break into the senior side at the Blues and at Gold Coast in the two years prior. But the 27year-old has nominated for the mid-season AFL draft.

“I’m definitely open to it,” Shaw said of a potential return.

“I’m just going to keep enjoying what I’m doing at Southport for now. If an opportunity does arise, I’ll sit down with (wife) Meagan and consider making the move again.

“For now I’m concentrating on getting my love of footy back. Family comes first so if it’s something that is beneficial for our family’s future then that’s something I’ll jump at.”

The midfielder had a 10 point lead in the NEAFL MVP voting going into Round 5 and after recording 31 disposals and a goal in Southport’s 14.15 (99) to 8.9 (57) win over Sydney University on Saturday, could potentially increase that margin.
