Roo Pen clash a real family affair

-

HISTORY was made at the Roo Pen on Saturday when Robina fielded its first mother-daughter combination, in round 5 of QFAW Division 2 South.

In the clash with Mt Gravatt, 16-year-old utility Lexie Johnston-Smith was joined by mother and Roos debutante Jaime at full-forward, while father and former Roo Gavin, and brother Brock, watched on proudly as volunteer match officials for Robina.

The youngster was sublime in centre half-forward, centre half-back and as a midfielder, and will enjoy a promotion to Division 1 next week.

The Roos were within seven points of the Vultures at the main change, with Haylee Wray showing her class in the midfield, and Jordan Campbell working tirelessly on the wing and the half-back flank. The visitors pulled away to win 2.1 (13) to 7.5 (47) but Roos coach Toni “Chip” O’Bree and assistant Hannah Blaine were thrilled with the turnaround from an 86-0 result against the same opposition a month ago.

Robina’s Colts were toppled by Burleigh in Round 4 of QFA Colts White, 10.12 (72) to 6.4 (40) at Bill Godfrey Oval on Friday night.
