CAVANOUGH OPTS OUT OF CURRIE DEAL

-

SCONE trainer Brett Cavanough has told QRIC stewards he wouldn’t be taking over the training of Ben Currie’s horses. Currie told owners on Friday night that he had “appointed a new stable trainer” in Cavanough to take over his Toowoomba team.

Chief steward Peter Chadwick received an official request from Currie on Saturday afternoon, but yesterday Chadwick was informed by Cavanough he would not be taking over. It is understood Cavanough told stewards he wanted to look after his own team in Scone. Currie is being prevented from racing with Racing Queensland, which has invoked AR55 to refuse nominations. That will be tested in the Supreme Court this week. Also this week, Currie will be sentenced by QRIC stewards after a guilty finding of two charges under AR175(a) last Friday.

Submissions on the penalty are due tomorrow.
