HEDLEY Thomas, one of the guest speakers at the St Hilda’s lunch, is the poster person (see how ‘woke’ we are?) for investigative journalism in this country. Feted with numerous awards and honours, he has become the journalists’ journalist with his explosive exposing and detailed reporting. His career began on this paper and we asked him why he chose journalism. “I liked writing and I was always asking annoying questions,” said Hedley. “My parents devoured newspapers and books so journalism was the right choice. I shared a flat with Paul ‘Boris’ Whittaker who also worked here and we used to compete on a daily basis for the best stories. They were fun days, Paul and I became best friends and he married my youngest sister.” Local boys done good.
