BUS CONVOY A MAGIC SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR TITANS

- CHRIS MCMAHON

THE Titans will be boosted by a 26-bus convoy heading up the M1 to watch them kick off the National Rugby League Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

About 1200 supporters will jump on board the buses to barrack for the boys against the Cronulla Sharks, in the hope they will find a bit of magic and start their climb up the ladder.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said it was great to get supporters up to Brisbane to watch the game.

“The Coast convoy is going to crunch the Sharks at Suncorp this Thursday,” Ms Jones said.

“The Titans have sold every single ticket to be a part of the Coast convoy and we’re so excited that our boys will be able to have a strong Gold Coast crowd to cheer them on.”

Titans head of Performance and Culture Mal Meninga said the players were primed and ready to go.

“I think we’re on the up, it’s a very important game, kicking off the Magic Round … we have got to kick our season off again,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic initiative, not only the bus convoy, but the Magic Round. It’s going to be huge for Queensland sport and Suncorp, the best rugby league stadium in Australia, by far.

“We’re privileged, the Titans, to be the first game and we won’t let our fans down.”

The Magic Round is a new concept for the NRL and features each of the 16 teams playing at one venue over four days. The Titans have won two of their first eight games and sit 14th.

Ms Jones said the Coast wasn’t in line any time soon to get its own Magic Round.

“It was a tough fight to get it to Suncorp and as Mal said, it is recognised as being the best rugby league stadium in Australia … the key thing is capacity at Suncorp, which is larger than the Gold Coast.”
