The Federal LNP government cut Medicare money given to the states for the public health system from 50 per cent to 45 per cent, a massive reduction confirmed many times. Only a fool would argue against those facts.

Ezza – sorry I didn’t make it clear – the example I gave was what would happen if the candidate with the most votes was the winner – as you rightly pointed out, preferences would take care of that. Also I was trying to point out that 70% of the electorate could have similar policy beliefs as opposed to the 30% – hardly irrelevant. D.E.

The planning boss Steve O’Connor is recommending the light rail go all the way to airport … shoudn’t he be worrying about the ridiculous problem with the M1 traffic? Hardly moves both directions on any given day, even weekends, especially from Mudgerraba down. One problem is we need another entrance on the freeway at Nineteenth Avenue. The only entrance at Palm Beach Ave is a nightmare, and with all the approval of all the new high rises in Palm Beach it’s only going to get worst. Sue, Currumbin

Totally agree with Lyn re disabled car parks at Burleigh shopping centre. My job is to take elderly people shopping, many in their 90s. If there isn’t a disabled parking spot available I park in a pram park and leave the disabled sticker on the dash. I’ve rung management in the past but nothing changed. It would also be great if the Pines had more than 2 disabled parks near the lift in the upstairs car park.

In response to Annette Grace’s letter (GCB 7/5) … You missed the fourth option for getting Gillard and Rudd to Labor launch. The quid pro quo is Julia G to be Gov Gen later this year when Cosgrove finishes up and Rudd to be Ambassador to USA as Joe Hockey will be replaced the day after the election. Heard it here first. Eddie B

I am cynical about governments because if they had been doing what they were supposed to be doing all these spending promises would not be needed as they would all now be in place now.

People should listen a bit more to Sally Spain. We need trees to breath, clean water, sun to shine. This is vital. Don’t complain later. J

Queensland needs to follow the new tough laws in NSW for drink/drug driving and take it one step more. Zero alcohol or zero drugs in the system to drive. Otherwise immediate 3

months licence suspension. For those breaking the rules – prison and sell their vehicle to cover the costs of incarceration. Why should the public pay for these idiots continuously flouting the system?

So D.E. thinks first past the post voting is not a fair vote yet we have the farcical situation of South Australia being represented by Senator Lucy Gichuhi who had a primary vote of only 152 and has publicly declared that “200,000 is a reasonable pay and not a lot of money.” – Pamyboy

The seas are rising!! I have lived on the same water for almost 50 years. The water has not “risen” an inch! The biggest con since the year 2000 hoax. A Local

Hi Ted – if the UK had compulsory voting there would be no BREXIT, because the people who thought staying was a no-brainer, would have got off their butts and had their say. SMG Ted you’re correct. Compulsory voting is essentially unconstitutional. That’s the reason why there are so many informal votes registered in every election. People are just fed up with the rot. John Z

So the royals have had another baby. Oh the joy. Meanwhile, I’ve got a 60hour working week with debts up to my eyeballs. Wake up people.

Re-J tram crossing creeks going to Cooly. They are called pylons. Down the centre of existing bridges allowing trams to travel above the traffic. John Palm Beach

Shano there is already a latte and smashed avo tax. It’s called GST!

Very crazy. Two G:Link inspectors on the tram. One booking a non-payer while the other one looks on. In the meantime 20 other non payers get off at the next stop to wait for the next tram. Hilarious to watch. Geoffrey.

I must be getting old when I read about the Candyman and see the Manson cult Old chook

Message to all the bicycle riders who use the shared footpaths along Marine Pde and through Broadwater Parklands. You have a bell on your bike to let pedestrians know you are going to pass them at a safe distance and speed. Please use it. Show some consideration for the other users of these shared footpaths.

Ted – seriously, if voting is bullying you have led a very sheltered life. Jayar.
