COOMERA STRONGMAN DEAD SET ON MAKING A DIFFERENCE

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

A GOLD Coast man will attempt to power through more than 900 reps of 100kg deadlifts within three hours.

The strongman feat is in order to raise money for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Coomera resident Chris Humphries said he had been toying with the idea for years, but finally decided to set a date and do it, inspired by a friend with cerebral palsy in the United States.

He also hopes the idea – called Deadlift Day – takes off, becoming an annual event with more athletes taking part.

“I did a test run about a month ago for just an hour, after work and after gym, and managed to get 300 reps, so 30 tonnes,” he said.

“When I actually do this, I will be going in fresh, so I might get more in the first hour and less in the last.

“No one has really done this before.”

People can sponsor Mr Humphries through his GoFund Me page, Deadlift Day Twenty-fifth of May.

“I want to show that I’m not that special or athletic, not as strong as some other people, but I’m doing something,” he said.

The 27-year-old will attempt the feat on May 25 at the Ground ZeroW gym, Arundel, from 4pm.
