MELBOURNE PIZZERIA IS TOP CRUST

MICHELE Circhirill­o is expecting to make a lot of Di Parma pizzas this week.

The $25 creation, topped with tomato sauce, fior de latte, prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, rocket and Grana Padano, has just been named the best pizza in Australia.

“It was always popular, but I guess it will be even more so now,” said Mr Circhirill­o, the founder and head chef of 48H Pizza e Gnocchi, in the Melbourne suburbs of South Yarra and Elsternwic­k.

He said he was “still floating” after the win at the World Pizza Championsh­ips in Parma, Italy, where 763 contestant­s from 41 countries took part.

“This was my third time at the competitio­n and winning was wonderful,” he said.

The best pizza in the world is from Britain’s Purezza.
