Former Coast boss back in the racing saddle

- TOM BOSWELL

FORMER Gold Coast Turf Club interim CEO Richard Towson has joined the Brisbane Racing Club as their general manager of operations.

Towson left the racing scene midway through 2017 to work for property developer Bob Ell but the lure of the track has proven too strong. Towson will start in his new role at the BRC in June after impressing during a trial a fortnight ago.

“I just missed it,” Towson said of the reason behind his return.

“I miss the action and being out there every Saturday. Once it’s in your blood you can’t get rid of it.

“Being CEO for six months at the GCTC put me in good stead. I’ll be looking after food and beverage operations, security, Tote, bookies, cleaning and maintenance.”

Towson came with a strong recommendation by GCTC chairman Brett Cook who said he was an asset to racing.

“It’s fantastic to have him back in the racing scene,” Cook said.

“Richard was very good at cost savings. When we had to bring him across as interim CEO for that six months he proved invaluable in keeping the business running strongly and keeping our expenses under control.

“It’s good to see him back in the industry because he loves it.” BRC chairman Neville Bell Towson was a great acquisition for the club.

“He was well recommended to me by Brett Cook,” Bell said.

“Brett gave him a strong recommendation. I believe he has got great skills and will be a great acquisition for the club.”
