Tweed gun a handful

-

HE’S a commentator’s nightmare but Ediq Ambrosyev will be terrorising more than team sheets in the under-18s national state championship decider.

The Tweed hooker was named best on ground in last week’s Mal Meninga Cup grand final after scoring a try and blunting WynnumManly’s attack from marker.

Ambrosyev’s second-half defence anchored the 28-24 victory and coach Tim McCann is backing the youngster to step up again when the Seagulls take on NSW champions Illawarra Steelers on Sunday.

“Ediq was coming off the bench for Round 1 and 2 but when (incumbent hooker) Jed Edwards went down, he took on that role and has been terrific ever since,” McCann said.

The game kicks off at 11am at Dolphin Stadium, Redcliffe.
