GENEROUS COAST

-

THE generosity and fun-loving spirit of the Gold Coast was on display on Saturday night.

The annual Gold Coast Mayoress Charity Foundation ball organised by Mayor Tom Tate’s wife Ruth was again another hit social event as well as being a substantial fund-raiser for those in the city who most need it.

Mrs Tate organises the ball and administers the foundation grants without any staff or overheads but with help from a volunteer board of directors.

The money raised from an auction on the night with generously donated items from major players in the city fabric goes direct into charity and volunteer group coffers.

Among the donors are a big list of Gold Coast companies including Village Roadshow, the Gold Coast Titans, Frizelle Sunshine Automotive, this newspaper the Gold Coast Bulletin, Dreamworld, the Gold Coast Suns and many more.

Major bidders on the night included Sunland Group chairman Soheil Abedian who deserves special mention for shelling out for an Audi Q2 and promptly donating it back for re-auction – which was an example followed by Living Gems.

The Gold Coast can get a bad rap at times for being a flashy, materialistic place in need of a bit more substance.

But there was plenty of all that is good about the city on show on Saturday night at The Star Gold Coast’s ballroom.

Not only that, it was a damn good time too with the dance floor rocking before some had even finished their mains.
