Tweed go down, but with honour

-

TWEED are suddenly living up to their pre-season SEQ Women’s Division 1 promise after pushing Brothers Ipswich hard in a 14-10 loss.

The Seagulls’ effort at Piggabeen Sports Complex follows their 22-18 upset of heavyweights Burleigh, with those two displays showing a marked step forward from their opening three rounds.

Coach Kelvin Wright put the improvement down to rising self-belief, plus more confidence among the newcomers to the league with each game they play.

He was particularly impressed with how they handled a mountain of possession and territory going Ipswich’s way on Saturday.

“We showed a lot of character and a lot of resilience in defence so really proud of them. They have certainly come a long way,” said Wright, who was delighted to blood two excellent finds in Teaghan Hartigan and Kahlia Walsh.

In bad news, however, prop CJ Sims is facing an extended stint on the sidelines due to a broken jaw.

Burleigh meanwhile sunk to their second straight loss, falling 24-16 to Wests Brisbane.
