Plaudits for DV services

-

SEVERAL Gold Coast services have been recognised for their tireless work in combating domestic violence in the city.

The Government agencies and community services were lauded for their work alongside the Queensland Police in helping victims and playing a role in the tough domestic violence (DV) space.

The agencies were recognised with Assistant Commissioner’s Certificates yesterday as part of DV prevention month.

Detective Inspector Marc Hogan, who runs the Gold Coast Domestic and Family Violence Taskforce, said it takes a community effort to help those in DV relationships.

“It’s about recognising key government and non-government agencies that assist and work with police together in response to domestic and family violence across the Gold Coast,” Insp Hogan said.

“It’s a very complex issue, there’s no silver-bullet solution to this.

“The modern-day approach is to apply integrated services to environments of harm and hopefully in doing that we pick up a lot of risks that go with it and we can treat the risk and provide greater safety for people in our community.

“Every day that I wake up and there hasn’t been a (DV) homicide is a win for us.”
