MELTING MOMENTS

Sheraton Grand Mirage is now serving high tea with a cheesy twist, writes Amber Macpherson

HIGH teas are a treat for a sweet tooth but a new decadent dining option at Sheraton Grand Mirage is one for the cheese connoisseur.

The Main Beach resort is serving High Cheese throughout winter at Pearls Bar, an indulgent spread of eight types of savoury and sweet cheeses for the greedy mouse in all of us. Pearls Bar chef Ewald Jeske says the high tea twist gives diners a more mature option in the cooler months.

“Historically many cheeses were eaten during the winter months, so we wanted to offer people something unique and warming this winter,” Ewald says.

“What better than something a little heartier like sweet and savoury cheese dishes accompanied with a cup of tea or a glass of red wine?”

So if it’s brie you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place. Ewald says the range features products of cheesemakers from all over Australia, from South Cape camembert spiked with prosciutto chards to Roaring ’40s King Island Blue.

“(We have a) gluten free Wombat Valley marinated feta, Club Vintage Classic Cheddar cheesy scones … and peach and apple mascarpone cheesecake made with milky white coagulated cheese,” he says.

“The High Cheese has been crafted based on modern tastes and sensations, uncovering the pleasures in gastronomy.”

The spread is served on three tiers while guests savour views of the Sheraton’s lagoons and gardens and the ocean.

“You could even make it an afternoon ritual to splurge on everything cheese and wine,” Ewald says.

High Cheese is available daily in the Pearls Bar from 3pm to 9pm for $50 per person or $60 with a glass of wine until August 1.
