FORGET the fitness fads and keep some cash in your pocket because the Gold Coast is a prime location for free outdoor fitness activities. Here are five great ways to keep fit for nothing.

1. Scenic Jog: A jog around Burleigh Headland is a great way to get the heart rate up, while enjoying an occasional view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

2. Park Run: Get ready to smash your PB with Parkrun – a timed 5km running event at 7am every Saturday. There are nine locations on the Gold Coast, with the Main Beach route the most popular. www.parkrun.com

3. Yoga and pilates: The Gold Coast City Council’s Active & Healthy program offers over 100 (or very cheap) yoga and pilates classes across the Gold Coast. All levels and ages are welcome.

4. Hit the stairs: If you are in the mood to sweat it out, head to the Rainbow Steps at Miami/ North Burleigh Lookout.

5. Outdoor exercise

equipment: Fitness circuits located in 11 parks on the Gold Coast is a perfect way to improve fitness levels without a queue or gym membership.
