Alleged Blu Tack bandit to fight accusations of jamming cash machines

-

A MAN accused of jamming Gold Coast ATM machines with sticky material as part of a money-making scheme intends to fight the allegations.

Gunay Seker allegedly put Blu Tack or gum inside ATMs in Surfers Paradise, Nobby Beach and Mermaid Beach so users would believe the machine was faulty and leave their money behind.

But the alleged plan backfired as the machines automatically stop working if they are interfered with.

Seker, charged with three counts of attempting to steal and one count of wilful damage, told the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday he would go to trial on the charges.

He claimed his innocence while fronting court on unrelated incidents of being drunk in public.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of being drunk in a public place and one count of contravening a requirement by police.

He was found roaming the streets while intoxicated on October 27 and November 13 last year, the court was told. Both times he had a bottle of wine. Seker was fined $200.

Last week he pleaded guilty to being drunk at a Broadbeach tram stop on October 7 last year. Seker will remain in custody.
