A GOLD Coast university student will be in the lineup of contestants at a Brisbane beauty pageant which will be televised in Hong Kong.

Yufei Lo studies construction by day and is preparing for the Miss Australia Chinese Pageant in her free time.

This includes learning to dance and walking on a catwalk.

The August 3 event will be a qualifying round for the Miss Chinese International Pageant.

One of Ms Lo’s goals was to make new friends.

Fellow contestants Angelina Xuan and Jessie Wu, both from Brisbane, are passionate about promoting the Asian culture to the broader community.

The three girls have chosen to dance for the competition’s talent round.

The inaugural event is a major fundraiser for the Royal Brisbane and Woman’s Hospital Foundation.

Organiser Audrey Kwok said the pageant aimed to bring international business interest to Queensland while promoting its tourism.
